Through past employment, Mike has investigated archaeological resources of all
ages, working extensively throughout the Maritimes, Ontario and Maine. With the
University of Maine, the Province of New Brunswick and several Nova Scotian
consulting firms, he has assisted in the testing of Precontact sites of the
Paleo-Indian, Archaic and Woodland periods, investigating 10,000 years of
Mi'kmaq, Maliseet and Penobscot prehistory. While working with St. Mary's
University, the Provincial Archives of Nova Scotia and Parks Canada, Mike has
examined historic resources ranging from early 17th century French
fortifications to late 19th century graves, including features within nine of
Canada's National Historic Sites.
Prior to the formation of CRM Group, Mike assisted W. Bruce Stewart on more
than three dozen archaeological screening, monitoring, assessment and
mitigative projects. Those study areas included the
Tracadie Range in northeastern New Brunswick; cultural resource
screening for the TransMaritime Pipeline Project in
Nova Scotia and New Brunswick; proposed sewage treatment facility sites
on the Miramichi, Mersey, and Stewiacke rivers; candidate subdivisions in
Burlington and Halifax; industrial properties in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward
Island; pipeline corridors south and northwest of London, Ontario; highway
corridors in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Ontario, including
Highway 407
north of Toronto; and proposed quarry expansions in Nova Scotia and Ontario.
Affiliated with CRM Group since its inception in 1998, Mike has been a key
player in most of the firm's Eastern projects. Highlights have included
archaeological work undertaken in preparation for the realignment of
Highway 103 at Barrington, the twinning of Highway 125 at Sydney, the
installation of interpretative structures at Fort Edward
National Historic Site in Windsor, the re-flooding of Sandy
Lake Reservoir in western Halifax Regional Municipality, the
development of a commercial property in the Debert Air Industrial Park, the
installation of interpretive signs on the St. George's Church
and Little Dutch Church properties in Halifax; and the development of a
natural gas distribution system for Sempra Atlantic Gas in the
Dartmouth, New Glasgow, and Truro areas.
